First Finish of 2022

I finished my 2nd RSC quilt from 2021 ~ Wonky Shoo Fly! It turned out even better than I expected! A few nights ago, I finally sat down to bind the quilt and finish up with hand stitching.

The last stitch went in last night, then it made its way to the washer and dryer. Here it is in all its crinkly goodness!
Today I took some time out in the snow for a photo shoot of Wonky Shoo Fly!
Wonky Shoo Fly was made following along with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge throughout 2021! I added one additional color, peach, so that I had 11 colors.
Angela, from So Scrappy and the host of RSC, posted a tutorial on the wonky shoo fly block. I choose to do it as one of my blocks for 2021.
The block size is 6" and I made 10 blocks each month.
To make the finished quilt a bit larger, I made 6" strips
of wonky piano keys to match the adjacent color block.
I also added another border of the scrappy cream color I
used in the top. I am very pleased on how it turned out.
All the scraps in the top are from my scrap bins. The backing is a new purchase.
The binding is also from my stash - navy and cream check.
(You can see it better in the first picture)
This quilt finished size is approx. 67" x 72"

And now it is 2022, a new year and new a RSC. January's color is red! I choose this block, Hang Ten, a free pattern on Happy Quilting
As I was making this block (it is 15"), I realized that I would get 8 bonus HST that I could use for another block. With a few additional squares, I made these 2 blocks. Easy Peasy!
Each block is 4"  x 8"
I also made this block that I found on flickr years ago.
I have lots of gray scraps, so I'm doing the background in gray! This block is 11".
I'm linking to Scrap Happy Saturday, Finished or Not Friday @ Alycia Quilts, and Friday Foto Fun
As the new year begins, the old year ends! Not sorry to say goodbye to 2021 but I did complete a year of monthly calendar journals! Here is my December calendar!

Have fun, stay warm and safe!

Almost done!

This week I worked on the final donation quilt for Hands2Help2020. Last night I ran out of steam after making the binding.
I sewed the binding on this morning and now it needs to be hand stitched.
When this is done, 4 charity quilts will be ready to be mailed out!
Thanks Sarah for this great opportunity to serve.
I am currently about 1/3 of the way done with the hand stitching on this quilt.
I have also kept busy with more mask making. This batch puts me over 75.
Stay healthy and stay safe everyone!

A little TLC needed!

Well, I'm back but not with the quilt that I put on hold for my daughter's quilt. It is still in the works as I needed to order more thread.
What I have today is the very first quilt that I made. It was a wedding gift for this cute couple back in July of 1996.
Over the years and as their family grew, it has been loved...
cuddled under, slept under, played on...exactly how I anticipated they use the quilt.
It is humbling to know that the quilt I made has been so loved!
Jump forward to 2015, and the quilt showed signs of wear that only a truly loved quilt can...faded and threadbare...especially around the binding.
The quilt is a traditional log cabin made on a foundation. I didn't know much about binding a quilt back then so I self bound the quilt with the backing fabric wrapped around to the front. I now know that a single fold binding is so much weaker than a double fold French binding hence the threadbare edges.
I took the quilt home to give it some TLC and a renewed life. I removed the old binding and trimmed the edges. Believe it or not, I had a piece of the fabric still in my stash so I made a new double fold French binding and attached it.
The new binding is on and ready to be hand stitched.
You can see how the fabric has faded over the years.
The quilt is quite large for my first! It measures 62" x 80" and is machine quilted around the logs. For the most part, the quilting has held up nicely.
I hand quilted a heart in the center of each log cabin and as you can see, most are still in tack. Not too bad for my very first quilt made 19 years ago!
All ready to go home for some more love!
