Yes! Swaps are fun!

I have a few updates today!  Remember that I stated that I finished my posy needle case and sent it off to my swap partner?  She notified me yesterday that she received her package!  My swap partner, Margaret is from Southern Australia.  She doesn't have a blog so I will post pictures here.  I added a little ribbon bow with a ladybug charm. Isn't it cute!

I also made this cute little wrist pincushion as a little surprise gift.  I found the tutorial here.  I'm glad you liked it, Margaret!  It was fun to be in the swap!

So I told myself that I need to wait patiently for my package from my swap partner.  I was anxious to see where the package would be from and what would be inside.  I didn't need to wait too long because in the mail today came a package addressed to me.  It came from North Carolina!  Here is my surprise!

My swap partner, Betty enjoys beading and her handiwork is exquisite! The posy has intricate beading around the edges, on the leaves and petals!  Betty also made a button pin that is all beaded.  I haven't done much work with beads.  Years ago I tried a cross stitch with beads [a UFO that I haven't run across in a while], I have strung beads for bracelets and I had to re bead a wedding dress that I did alterations on.  That's about all  ~ so I appreciate all the work!

That's all for now!  Will have some more goal updates soon!

I'm back!

Well this post is well over due but somehow when you get back from vacation, it takes awhile to get caught up!
First, let me show you what was waiting for me when I arrived home.  A package with these lovelies inside!

I won this give away from Dawn over at The Straw Needle.  Two quilted heart potholders and a charm pack of Aster Manor for Moda!  Thank you Dawn!

Next up is a follow up on my Charming Girls' Quilt Club.  As mentioned before, this month's theme is Self-Care.  When I first posted about this topic, I mentioned that I was going to treat myself to a pedicure!  And I DID!

It was wonderful to pamper myself and have pretty feet before heading off for vacation!
Love the red!

This past Monday (the day after we got home), I completely finished by Between Charming Friends QAL quilt.  I needed to bind it since I couldn't do that without my machine.  Here is the finished 'A Little Gem!'

And finally an update on my goals!
Quilting ~ finished by QAL
~put the borders on my Red & White, need to get backing material
~finished my Applique Posy Needle Case (and a little extra surprise) for my swap partner and sent it.  Will post pictures once it's received.
~have worked on a design layout for my stitchery, but it isn't finalized.
~second Happy Camper quilt may have to be put on the back burner due to other priorities coming to up.
Reading ~ while on vacation, we listen to 3 books on tape.  Does that count?  I would think so since I couldn't really be reading while listening.  These included:
Airborn by Kenneth Oppel
Smiles to Go by Jerry Spinelli
and My Antonia by Willa Cather
I also finished 2 books.
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
and Free Range Knitter by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee
I'm currently reading The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks!
Vacation ~ I will share Part 1 of our vacation now! We had a wonderful time with our daughter, Kirsten and future SIL, Mike (and his family) in South Dakota. Take a look! Hope you enjoy it!

I'm Ecstatic!

Yep!  Today I finished the Mariner's Compass quilt!! I am so excited for my DH to see it but he is out of town until later tonight.  So I will just show you first! Heehee!  It is all quilted [by me], bound and labeled!! I am very pleased with the results!! What do you think?

Some artsy photos!!

For anyone that is following my blog, I started quiltingbydawn back in January when I started this very quilt.  I was a bit overwhelmed as I never did a quilt quite so complicated.  I wanted to chart my progress.  Kinda like Julie in the movie Julie & Julia.  That's where I got the idea and before you know it I was blogging.  I have since become addicted!  Mostly because of the inspiration and creativity among quilt bloggers and such.  So although this quilt is a FINISH, my blogging will go on.  Enjoy!

I'll leave you with a few pictures from some summer fun!

Here we are at Ravinia celebrating our very good friend, Ruth's birthday!  Where's the birthday girl?  Well, as you can see, we were busy trying to keep dry. The tarps and umbrellas were used throughout the night.  We actually had a great time even if we ended up drenched in the end!

Here is my birthday and Father's Day!  We shared the day this year!  Notice Ruth [in the purple] who was missing from her birthday pictures!  She made the most delicious cake for me! Thanks Ruth!  Love this family!!

Here are some pretty cactus flowers blooming in the yard.  They are the most brilliant yellow!

I should also mention that I signed up for a applique posy needle case swap!  Michele from Quilting Bloggers is doing the swap.  Sign ups are still going on so hop on over here and sign up.  This is my first swap and I am pretty excited to find out who my swap partner will be!
