RSC ~ Pink block #2

So far, so good! I have been able to keep up with one button block a week! Here is my second pink button!

I'm linking to ScrapHappySaturday @SoScrappy
Speaking of pink, I knitted this cute dress for my granddaughter. I love the gathering on the bodice.
I started the 2023 #improvtrianglesewalong with Nicholas @quiltsintheattic
This year I am hoping to achieve the look of evergreen trees in a snowy field.
These are from my first cut of triangles and backgrounds.
I added a few more yesterday with more to sew.
They do sew up pretty fast so my forest is growing!
This is most likely not the final layout.
Next week we will start making slabs.
In February, I also participated in #monkiemotivation where Rachel Pierman and Gary Mills talk about mindfulness on the Craftymonkies YouTube channel and then do a simple mindful craft.
This one is a torn paper collage from blocks of color found in magazines.
On the feather I used watercolor colored pencils and found this mindful quote.

Christmas crafting and sewing

Although I haven't been able to blog during December (until now), I have done a bit of Christmas crafting, sewing and quilting that I can now share with you.

I enjoy crafting with my grandson and we did several crafts together. To practice his cutting skills (he loves to cut paper into tiny pieces), we made an octopus and a santa (no photos of the santa.)

We also did some Christmas crafts for presents. Our dear friend Ruth had my grandson and me over for a craft morning. We went out to collect pine cones at a local park and put together these pine cone wreaths.

So much fun!

At Mormor's Christmas workshop, we made these handprint ornaments for gifts.   This idea was found on Pinterest.

Besides crafting with my grandson, I did a bit of Christmas crafting, knitting and quilting on my own. As hostess gifts, I made these gnomes
and these little quilted gnomes.

My daughter asked if I could make a pacifier holder similar to one she found online. I searched to see if I could find a pattern but couldn't. So I decided to try to make my own pattern. I used the double stockinette stitch so that it would look the same on both sides. This stitch is a bit complicated when it comes to increasing and decreasing but with a little research, I figured out what I think results in the neatest look. So far I've made 2 of these and my daughter is pleased with how they turned out. I used organic cotton for these but may get some merino wool to make another.
I also made my grandson a reading pillow which I forgot to take pictures of. It went along with his new Christmas book and PJ's.

Finally and in the nick of time, I finished the December step for the Macaron Mystery QAL.
Here are my square in a square blocks.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! Looking forward to the New Year and all the hope it brings.

Slow Stitching Progress

I was able to spend some time on Sunday working on my flowers. I have almost 1/4 of the flowers complete! Yay! It has been fun learning new stitches or relearning stitches. It is relaxing but I find that good light is needed for these old eyes.

I also finished knitting a hat for my daughter! It is a simple pattern with a new to me cast on method so it is nice and stretchy. She loved it! Linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching @ Kathy's Quilts

I'll leave you with this cute picture of my grandson. He loves to play! Here he is playing with his stretchy newt. (His mom had a pet newt when she was young)

Today I have a couple of new finishes!

I finished the Snowflake quilt by ModernHandcraft. The pattern is based on 3" blocks but I wanted it for a wallhanging. I used 1" squares so the finished size would be 20" x 24".

I used Christmas fabrics in my stash that were donated to me. All the fabrics have gold in them. I also quilted the snowflake with a gold metallic thread. The background was FMQ with swirls and snowflakes in green thread. I'm linking up with Can I Get a Whoop, Whoop @Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Peacock Party @Wendy's Quilts and More, Friday Foto Fun @Poweredbyquilting and Finished or Not Friday @AlyciaQuilts

I also knitted this little gnome that I found on Pinterest to add to my collection (red hats).

I do love to craft for Christmas!
My grandson has the right idea for 2020...

The perfect ornament for 2020!

December Update

December is almost over and it is time to slow down and celebrate this
special season with family and friends!
I can say that I finally finished my Christmas sewing/handmade projects ~
(I only have the binding on a wedding quilt left).
This cute little snowman coaster was part of the gift exchange for my knitting club.
The finished snowman table topper! A free tutorial from Vicki's Crafts and Quilting. It was part of the 12 Days of Christmas blog hop in July.
One was so cute, I made two!
I also made a set of garden banners ~ 12 in all to be used throughout the year and for special occasions!

I knitted a hat!
...and I completed the blocks for the Mosaic Mystery Quilt! This was step 5.
I will link up to the December flying geese link up over at Meadow Mist Designs. In January we will start putting together the quilt!
I also made my Christmas ornaments for 2019 but I forgot to take a picture. I will share on my next post 😉
I enjoy making these little projects but I still need to finish up some large quilt projects before the end of the year! 🤞🏻

In Like a Lion...

It's March and as the saying goes, the weather has been roaring. Cold and still snowy! I was lucky to have spent the last part of February into early March down with my family in Austin, TX. Although the weather was up and down (true Spring weather), it was nothing like Chicago weather!
Because I expected to spent lots of time with my grandson (and I did), I only  brought a book for reading and a small reverse applique project.
Not long after arriving in Austin, my DD3 asked if I could knit a baby hat for a college friend of hers that was expecting soon. Since I didn't have any knitting supplies with me, I looked though my DD2's supplies and found needles that would work. We went to Hobby Lobby for some yarn (in the color she wanted), and I was ready. Of coarse, I knitted one for my grandson, too!
While I was at it, my DD2 asked if I could knit another one for their friends that had a baby girl a few weeks before my grandson was born. So, I added a crocheted bitty flower to the hat.
Done with baby hats, my DD3 wanted a hat for herself. She scrolled through my Pinterest board and found a hat with cables! How was I going to manage that without a cable needle. Hmmm 🤔 I used a circular needle as the cable needle and used double points for knitting in the round! It worked!
I did work a little bit on my reverse applique blocks, however, I struggled with the inner and outer corners/points. I'll keep trying ~ a little here and there.
My last project before coming home was a play mat for my grandson. My DD2 wanted something to go under the wooden gym she made. She wanted a high contrast black and white print. We went to several big box stores and didn't find anything. Then we went to the local quilt shop where the saleslady suggested using different fabrics in the quadrants. Why didn't we think of that?
My daughter choose 2 different fabrics and we bought 2 fat quarters each.
We found a cute black and white flannel print for the back. We purchased a thick polyester batting, black bias tape, and black and white perle cotton thread. I went to work! My DD2 has a old basic sewing machine (works great but doesn't have quilt accessories.) We cut each fat quarter into squares and stitched them together. Then we cut it into a circle as well as the backing and batting. We then sandwiched it and I got started hand quilting using Big Stitch quilting. Trimmed it and added the bias tape binding and ta da!
The stripes are stitched in the black stripes with black perle cotton and the white print is stitched with white perle cotton in arches following the pattern.
Here is my grandson enjoying it!
Once home, I made a list of all the sewing/quilting that I needed to catch up on. The first being the RSC for March. The color for March is green. Here is my Reverse Star block!
One down....

Just trying to keep my head above the water

It has been a trying few months for my family. We are still in the midst of taking care of my mom and making decisions for the future.

I have been able to finish a few small projects, mostly out of necessity, as there are new babies and baby showers. First, this adorable baby quilt.
I used the border print, On Parade, from the line Children at Play by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller, and some traditional blocks set in rows to create this quilt. The contrast fabrics are Follie by Lotta Jansdotter and a gray scratch print.
The backing is pieced from the coordinating print, Balloons, from the same line and Follie from the blocks.
The first row of blocks is a simple square in a square block. I straight lined quilted around the center square.
The second row of blocks is the friendship star block. In the star, I FMQ a feather pattern.
The third row of blocks is churn dash. I also did some FMQ on this block. Each block in the rows are 6" squares. To separate the rows I used some Kona White in a 5" banner which I FMQ rows of ribbons.
In the border print, I used a FMQ stippling quilting design.

The finished size is 33" x 42"

Another baby project I made is this cute ruffled baby bib.
I used this pattern which I had pinned quite a while ago. The pattern is by Nana & Company which makes so many pretty things.
The tutorial is so easy to follow and simple to make. The fabric is Simple Nature by Cynthia Coulter. The contrast fabric is Heath for Alexander Henry.
I created the little patch by finding a cute clip art online and printing it on muslin. I then fused it and finally used a zig zag stitch to finish.
Just too cute!

I also have been knitting to keep my hands busy while I don't have a lot of time to spend in my sewing room. On a trip to visit our kids in Austin, TX this spring, I picked up some organic cotton to knit Spa Washcloths at Hill Country Weavers.
I knitted 2 in each color using 2 different patterns. The yellowish green cloths are the pattern found here. The orange cloths are the pattern found here. Both were easy and fun to knit. The yarn is very nice. It is called Sprout from the Verde Collection by Classic Elite Yarns. It was hard to pick colors as there were many pretty ones.
That's what I been up too! I haven't been around much lately so I have to ask. What have you been working on?
