March Goals Update

March is coming to a close. Will it go out like a lamb?
After mild weather for most of winter, which spoiled us, Mr. Winter came back just  a week before the official end. We got quite a bit of snow!
March was a short sewing month for me as we headed to visit our kids for 10 days in warmer weather!
However, I did work to accomplish my goals!
My first goal was to complete my leader/ender baby quilt for donation to
Project Linus.
This quilt used squares that I over cut for my niece's 1st baby quilt and sat around my sewing room for way too long. She is 2 1/2 years old.
The pink is very light so I emphasized the greens.
The quilting is concentric squares around the mini pieced squares and loops in the border.
It is labeled and ready for donation! Finishes at 34" x 39 1/2"
My second goal was to finish piecing the Elephant Parade quilt and get it to the flimsy stage.
I love how this quilt is turning out. I just had to add a unexpected pop of color. It is Kona cotton Wasabi. Lorna over at Sew Fresh Quilts does a great job with her tutorials. These blocks are fun to make!
I ordered this fabric for the backing. It just arrived! I have some work to do!
My third goal for March was to decide on the pattern for the modern wedding quilt I will be making. I'm going to use a pattern from this book.
The couple lives in the city so....
I will be making the quilt using the City Bank pattern.

A finish for Project Linus

A friend of mine gave me quite a few projects that were orphaned by
a friend of hers that passed away. The family was happy that they
were going to someone that would be able to use them. After looking thru
the organized bags, it became clear that this lady belonged to a swap that
each person sent the pieces for a themed block with instructions and
a extra square of fabric that coordinated. Usually there were
about 6 - 8 squares in the swap. She had many of the blocks put together,
some partially put together, and others waiting to be put together.

As I sorted through the bags, I knew that some of them I just couldn't put together in a quilt as the blocks didn't really coordinate, or some were poorly made and the sizes didn't match up. However, this one was too cute
not to make into a Project Linus quilt.
Most of these 6 blocks were already made. The Sunbonnet Sue block was partially completed and the log cabin needed some logs to bring it up to the size of the others. I added sashing from the scraps of fabric that came along in the bag and the side borders to make it large enough for a baby quilt.
The back was also pieced with the coordinated squares and leftover fabric.
I decided to bind it in a red striped fabric that I had in my stash to give
 it a pop of color!
The only thing left is to label it and get it to the local donation shop.
Finished size: 32.5" x 39"
Another summer finish!
It feels good to get a few things out of my sewing room completed.

Mid~week update = a finish!

Remember when I was playing with stripes and made these?
These squares were hanging around my design wall and I wanted to to something with them before moving on to another project. So I pulled out the remainder of the striped fabric and continued making squares. Since I didn't have enough fabric to make them all the size of these original squares, I made some smaller, trimmed some to fit, and them put them all together. This is what I came up with. I'm naming it Squared.
I backed the quilt with a solid pink from my stash and FMQ with interlocking squares.

Don't look too close as I was having a little trouble with thread breakage however I believe it was the thread not the design. This design was inspired by this interlocking circle tutorial.  The quilt is finished at about 30" x 36".
I will donate this quilt to Project Linus.
