September Goals Update

I'm happy to say that I accomplished my goal for September! I needed to finish the quilting and bind this quilt.
I had started the quilting with the little sail boats following the tutorial by Lori Kennedy over at The Inbox Jaunt. I needed to finish those and then add waves to the borders following another tutorial by Lori.
I bound this quilt with a blue and white fabric I bought last year while vacationing in the Pacific Northwest with this quilt in mind.
Here is my finished Sail Away! quilt. I made this quilt with different nautical prints and other red, white and blue prints in my stash following the pattern called Nautical News by Busy Hands Quilts. I replaced one of the blocks with a sail boat block.
I also added a paper pieced anchor block to the back.
It does feel great to use fabrics from my stash which I had collected over the years!
The finished size for this quilt is 59" x 79"
Even the label is nautical themed!
I also kept up with the quilt alongs that I am following. See my orange blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and The Milky Way QAL here.
The newest finished blocks for the Grandma's Kitchen Sew Along are

New Goals

We had a nice Labor Day weekend camping and hiking in Devil's Lake State Park but now it is time to set some goals for September!
After completing my scrappy star top, I set it aside and started the quilting on my Sail Away! quilt that I completed the top for in 2016.
Sandwiched and with the quilting started,
my goal for September is to finish the quilting and bind this quilt!
I'm quilting little sail boats in the blocks and waves will be in the borders. I'm following the tutorials by Lori Kennedy at The Inbox Jaunt.

Also, the color for September is ORANGE! I will work on my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks making little spools in orange. This challenge is sponsored by SoScrappy.
I will also make the monthly star, Betelgeuse, for the Milky Way QAL over at Blossom Heart Quilts
And I will catch up and continue the weekly sew along over at Pat Sloan's Grandma's Kitchen.
I will link up to OMG September goals at Elm Street Quilts
Go on over and read other goals and give some encouragement!
Do you set monthly goals?

February Goals Update

I blinked and February was gone!
Although I got some work done of my OMG for February, I didn't finish everything. Good thing that it is One Monthly Goal because I did finish 1 of the 3 projects that I had hoped to finish. On the bright side, I did work on the other 2 projects...just not to completion.

The project I finished was the Halloween wallhanging for my daughter which I will bring to her in March.
Before sandwiching the quilt block I added the word EEK! to the spiderweb.
It will be a cute wallhanging for her to celebrate Halloween and I finished a UFO!
WIN-WIN!
I also worked on quilting the baby quilt that came together as my leader/ender project.  In the beginning of February it was a flimsy. I managed to sandwich it and start the quilting but haven't quite finished.
I have one more row of concentric squares to quilt, then to bind it.

Last, I wanted to move forward my Sail Away quilt. I only took a baby step in moving this one forward. I wanted to piece an anchor block into the backing. I did manage to piece the anchor block but didn't get it into the backing.
I did keep up with my RSC and the Milky Way QAL, and added 2 mini houses to my blue and white neighborhood. Progress there!
Well, it seems I'm a little late for the finish up link up this month.
So onto March...

Welcome 2017

Today I am setting a few goals for 2017.
Many of the quilts I make are a challenge to me as a new technique or pattern.
It is a rare bird for me to make a quilt over again.
I can only think of 2 repeat quilts patterns since I started quilting in 1996.
At the end of 2016, I had a few UFOs that carry over to 2017.
First is my mini blue houses. When I started these little guys, I didn't have a goal in mind...just letting the neighborhood grow at its own pace. At the end of 2016, the population stood at 38!
The houses are 4"
This is the last addition to the neighborhood in 2016.
In 2017, I will continue to add to the neighborhood until I run out of blues.
(Ha! That maybe never!)

The second UFO from 2016 is my Sail Away! quilt. This is all pieced and at the flimsy stage.

My goal will be to sandwich and quilt this nautical quilt.

Third in line is my Chicago Cubs quilt. I'm using the economy block for this quilt.
So far I have 10 blocks made.
My goal will be to start making the alternate block to compliment these blocks.

My fourth project is this delectable mountain quilt. My goal for starting this quilt was to use some of the fabric that was donated to me and try a new technique.
(The bright large print flowers that I paired with Kona black.)
When fabric is donated to me, I feel guilty not using it even if it isn't my colors/style. So I use it as an experiment to try a new technique and often donate the finished quilt.
My goal will be to finish the blocks, decide on a border or not, and get it to the flimsy stage.

The 5th project that I am setting a goal for is to use this pretty scrap piece of flannel (donated) and learn to crochet a border around it
for a sweet receiving blanket.

And finally I will once again join in the 2017 Rainbow Scrap Challenge over at So Scrappy. January's color is purple
I need to choose a block that I will do this year.
I will also link my scrap quilt progress to Oh Scrap! over at
Quilting is more fun than Housework.

This year I will also join and link up to One Monthly Goal over at
Elm Street Quilts.
For January, I have picked my fourth project ~ the delectable mountain quilt.
Head on over to see other quilty goals!
