Back to a Basic - Sunday's Summary

The very first quilt I made way back in 1996 was this log cabin quilt as a wedding gift for dear friends of ours.
Please don't be too critical...hair, glasses, blouse...yikes!
Then in 2002, I made Court House Steps, a variation of the traditional log cabin  block.
Both pictures taken before digital cameras. Colors so much better in real life!
So this week I felt like it was time to go back to the basic log cabin with a more modern twist! I have been working on these blocks.
I cut the solid Kona bone logs, 2 1/2" wide and the colored logs, 3 1/2" wide and then arranged them until I was happy with this...
This is now a flimsy on my design wall which accounts for the poor lighting. The 'star' is laid out a little off center. I love how visually it gives you the feeling that it just keeps going. I will leave it without a border. Now to find a backing...

This week has been pack with tragic events...Boston, Texas, and my own community with flooding.

In light of all these events, I leave you with this verse...

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
2 Corinthians 12:9

  1. Boo to the flooding.... that is always such a mess. We had a lot of rain here too this week. Thankful we did not have water in our basement.
So many heart aches this week... just can't imagine the the depth of it all, lives changed forever. Praying for God to comfort their hearts and that they will find strength to live each day without loved ones, and strength to carry on for those who suffered so much physical harm from the bombing.

Good job with the log cabin star :). I hope to make a log cabin quilt some day. I did a little sewing for charity this week, it was an OLD project I started more than a year ago, and made a curtain for my daughters bathroom. We bought the fabric before Christmas... Love having 2 less projects in bags in my sewing room! Thanks for sharing. Janita

  2. The quilts are beautiful. I always am amazed at all the different ways you can make the log cabin and have a different quilt
I, too, live in the Chicago area and there was flooding where I used to live and Rt. 53 was closed in areas, Morton Arboretum closed, and the list goes on but I was lucky to have moved to Homer Glen and I had no water at all except for the stream that runs through the property was over its banks. I was out and about when it was raining so hard and was so glad to get home. I hope your house did not get flooded as it is such a pain cleaning up all the mess. And now more rain is expected. Will this ever end and spring get here?

  3. I think the logs were some of the first quilts many of us started with, but they are so versatile. Yours are wonderful.

That flooding looks and sounds dreadful. Stay safe.

  4. Love the look of your new flimsy. I'm supposed to make some similar blocks to go with my BOM to finish off my quilt.
Hope they turn out as nice as yours.

Glad your house wasn't affected by the flooding.
